I would encourage readers to go to the following website to find more related information: http://rand-prgs-warning.com. This is a scary organization and needs to be investigated, not honored. A recent LA Times story http://articles.latimes.com/2011/oct/24/local/la-me-rand-pot-study-20111025 shows that RAND published a fake study using fake data. As set forth in the article, RAND was forced to retract its report. This only contributes to the problem..

RAND is scared by the "concept of recoupment" - bizarre! Your interest in “causal” relationships between media and real-world events" is something that we agree with - wholeheartedly!

I agree with Insider, but add, this is true of most of the government employee created and funded 'corporations' and 'organizations' ... employment for those looking to continue fattening their wallets ... much the same as those who retire from the military after 20 years, get a federal government job to glean more benefits, and then obtain another job with one of the state governments, securing benefits of three retirements. The fine art of working smarter, not harder ... or at least appear to be doing so ...

This was the most accurate, descriptive and by far the most informative piece I have ever read on the RAND Corp. Having worked there many years, I can attest to the fact that the picture you paint is dead on accurate and were it known by more people would eventually prove fatal to an organization that peddles fancy opinion pieces as research. Really? Anyone interested in a serious research organization should investigate the Milken Foundation, which is paying serious attention to the issues that matter in today's world. RAND can go on and on doing what it does best: being a blowhard!!

"There's no there, there."

I came for the neuronium, but this article addressed something I've been curious about for a long time. Smoke and mirrors, so it is.

These think tanks frighten me. The concept is sound. Inevitably, they turn to shit.

Fun to read man!
